At last, these clever kids have found the perfect use for those nasty little balls of cabbaginess that always seem to hang around your plate at Christmas time.
The world’s first battery made entirely of Brussels sprouts was designed by a team of kids and scientists; 1000 Brussels sprouts were used to light 100 LEDs on an 8-foot Christmas tree at the Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Fair.
The battery was created from five power cells, each carrying 200 sprouts connected to copper and zinc electrodes and produced a total of 63 volts.
All hope is not lost for the Brussels sprout after all.
