Top 5 Simple Fixes for Annoying PC Problems

By 21st May 2025No Comments

We’ve all been there. The internet drops. The mouse freezes. The printer refuses to print… again.

Before you throw your PC out the window, try these simple, do-it-yourself fixes for the most common computer headaches.

1. Wi-Fi Keeps Disconnecting?

Try This:

  • Restart your router and computer
  • Move closer to the router if you’re on Wi-Fi
  • Make sure Airplane Mode is OFF
  • Go to:
    Settings > Network & Internet > Troubleshoot

Still struggling? A Wi-Fi booster or cable connection might help!

2. Mouse or Keyboard Suddenly Not Working

Try This:

  • Unplug and plug it back in (yes, seriously)
  • Try a different USB port
  • For wireless devices, check the batteries or switch them off and on again
  • Restart your PC

Sometimes it’s just the batteries—no tech skills needed!

3. Computer Running Slow?

Try This:

  • Restart your PC (amazing how often this works)
  • Close programs you’re not using
  • Delete files you don’t need (like old downloads)
  • Search for “Disk Cleanup” in the Start Menu and run it
  • Stop unnecessary apps from opening when your computer starts:
Ctrl + Shift + Esc > Startup tab > Disable apps you don’t need

Too much stuff open at once can slow things down—keep it light!

4. Sound Not Working?

Try This:

  • Make sure your speakers or headset are plugged in and turned on
  • Check the volume (bottom right corner of your screen)
  • Right-click the sound icon and choose “Troubleshoot sound problems”

Headphones plugged in? Unplug and see if that helps.

5. Can’t Print?

Try This:

  • Turn the printer off and on again
  • Check if it’s out of paper or ink
  • Make sure it’s connected to Wi-Fi or plugged in
  • Go to:
    Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners
Find your printer and click “Run the troubleshooter”

Sometimes just clearing the queue helps: Right-click the printer > See what’s printing > Cancel all.

Don’t panic—try the basics first.
Most problems have simple solutions, and you don’t need to be “good with computers” to fix them. When in doubt, turn it off and back on again. Seriously.
